Rosneft Optimizes Well Workover – Successful Implementation of Cup2Cup Technology in Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug

The RN-Purneftegaz company, which is part of the production complex of Rosneft Oil Company, is switching to the domestic technology of using cup packers – devices necessary for treating the bottomhole formation zone with chemical reagents. Domestic cup packers have shown high efficiency at the Company’s fields – the workover time per well has been reduced by an average of six times.

The introduction of advanced approaches and new technologies is one of the key areas of the Rosneft-2030 strategy. The company pays special attention to innovative development, defining technological leadership as a key factor in competitiveness in the oil market.

Cup packers hermetically isolate individual parts of the wellbore to supply chemicals to the treated area. The gain in well repair time is achieved by treating the bottomhole zone in several layers in one round-trip operation. In addition, this engineering solution reduces the mechanical impact on the walls of the production string, which reduces the risk of wear and depressurization of the well.

The application of the experience of selective treatment of the bottomhole zone of wells with the layout of domestic cup packers at Rosneft enterprises in the future will increase the efficiency of the development of directional and horizontal wells.

RN-Purneftegaz LLC is one of the main oil and gas production centers of Rosneft Oil Company in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The enterprise is located in the city of Gubkinsky and carries out production activities at 10 licensed areas. During the development of the fields, the enterprise produced more than 270 million tons of oil and gas condensate, more than 120 billion m3 of gas.
